Liste over Child Ballads
Liste over Child Ballads refererer til innholdet i samtlige av de 305 balladene (balladetypene) i Francis James Childs utgivelse Popular English and Scottish Ballads (Populære engelske og skotske ballader) som ble samlet på siste halvdel av 1800-tallet. Disse omtales også som Child Ballads, dvs Childs ballader; se denne artikkelen for ytterligere informasjon.
Child kategoriserte balladene som følger, og forsøkte å sortere balladene i hver kategori «med hensyn til fortellingens antatte alder».[1]
BIND I. inneholder ballader om allslags overtro – om feer og elver, vannånder, trolldom og spøkelsesvesener; og også noen legender om populære personer.
BIND II. Tragiske kjærlighetsballader.
BIND III. Andre tragiske ballader.
BIND IV. Kjærlighetsballader, ikke tragiske.
BIND V. Ballader om Robin Hood, hans følgesvenner og venner.
BIND VI. Ballader om andre lovløse, særlig de ved grensen, om streiftog og feider der.
BIND VII. Historiske ballader, eller dem om kjente personer eller hendelser.
BIND VIII. Diverse ballader, særlig humoristiske, satiriske, burleske; også noen eksempler på ballader om moral eller bibelske, og alle slike som har ble oversett da de foregående bindene ble satt sammen.[2]
