Den synges i operaen av rollefiguren Arline, som er forelsket i Thaddeus, en polsk adelsmann og politisk eksillist. Det har blitt fremført og innspilt av mange artister som blant annet Enya, samt Sissel Kyrkjebø på albumet hennes Into Paradise.[1] Det sies å bringe uflaks dersom den blir plystret eller sunget i et teater.[2]
