The Iditarod is something that makes me so proud to be an Alaskan - I never get tired of watching the dogs or wondering about life on the trail during the race - I wish I could have tried it. I took these photos at the Ceremonial Start - it is held the day before the race actually starts and is more of a party atmosphere to celebrate and honor the mushers and dogs. The race starts in downtown Anchorage and winds through the woods for a bit before the mushes pick up and head to Willow for the real start. I love to shoot out in the woods, away from the crowds. The mushers look so relaxed, the dogs look happy, and life is good.
I took these photos on 2 March 2013 near Goose Lake, Anchorage, Alaska.
